Leaving town early in the morning, driving up for about 1h30min towards the third largest field of geysers in the world located in the Andes, we are welcomed by temperatures below zero just before sunrise to enjoy the site in its best moment and be astonished by the sheer force inside the earth.
The geothermal area is about 10km2 large, around 80 geysers onsite and steams that easily reach heights of 30m, all illuminated by the rising sun behind the mountains will certainly leave a deep impression on you. Fresh baguette and chocolate croissant will be served for breakfast onsite still facing nature´s spectacle. Moreover you will have the opportunity to swim in a natural pool of hot water nearby.
On our way back towards San Pedro, we discover the local flora and fauna and the somewhat magic wetlands of Putana as well as the atacamenian culture in the mountain village Machuca where you may try lama skewers on the barbecue. Make sure to take warm clothes and swimming gear.
